Learn Latvian is built so that your data stays yours. The short version: we don't collect, store, or sell any of your data. There is no account, no analytics, and no tracking.
Everything you do in the app is stored only on your device (and in the app's shared container so its widgets can read it):
This data never reaches us. You can export it as a JSON file at any time (Settings → Export Data), and deleting the app deletes the data.
None. Learn Latvian has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking SDKs, no user accounts, and no servers of our own. The only time anything leaves your device is when you choose to use an optional AI feature with your own API key.
Two features stay off until you enter your own API key in Settings:
AI translation and phrase analysis (Anthropic). When you use the Translate tab or request a phrase analysis, the text you typed (or text recognised from a photo) is sent directly from your device to Anthropic's Claude API using your key. We operate no server in between and never see this text. Anthropic's handling of API data is described in their privacy policy.
Text-to-speech (ElevenLabs). When you tap a Listen button and have an ElevenLabs key configured, the Latvian text to be spoken is sent directly from your device to ElevenLabs using your key. See their privacy policy.
Generated audio and AI responses are cached on your device so repeated requests don't re-send anything.
If you use the camera or photo translation feature, text recognition runs entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. Images are not uploaded anywhere. (If you then ask for an AI translation of the recognised text, only that text is sent, as described above.)
Practice reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. No push-notification service is used and notification content never leaves your device.
The app does not collect data from anyone, including children, and contains no third-party advertising.
If a future version changes any of the above (for example, adding an optional translation service that doesn't require your own key), this policy will be updated here with a new date and the change called out in the App Store release notes.
